Your skin can change with the seasons. Skin that becomes oily in the hot summer months can become drier in winter and in central heating. So take your skin’s quirks into account when choosing your mask. The smartest solution for chemically damaged hair is to quit using chemical products like dyes and relaxers and never look back.
Unfortunately, that can be a very drastic step—one that the majority of women are unwilling to take, especially if they have been using these products for years. The good news is that there are plenty of other ways to treat damaged hair besides giving up chemicals for good. In fact, the process starts with taking a look at which chemicals you use and how often you use them. Here are a few questions to ask yourself if you are dealing with chemical damage:
1. Cleanse your face before applying your chosen mask. Afterward, rinse with warm water, and then apply moisturizer.
2. Most masks should be left on the skin for between 3 and 10 minutes. For the best results, read the instructions carefully.
3. If you have sensitive skin, it is always best to use homemade masks suited to your skin type.
Always use natural, herbal products rather than chemicals that do not suit your skin type.
1…Moisturizing Masks:
These are ideal for dry complexions because they boost the moisture levels of your skin. This means they can help banish dry patches, flakiness, and even fine lines. They work quickly like an intensive moisturizer and are usually left on the skin for 5-10 minutes before being removed with a tissue. The slight residue left on your skin will continue to work until you next cleanse your skin. They are a soothing treat, particularly after too much sun, or when your skin feels tight.
2…Cleansing Masks:
Basically, all face masks have some sort of cleansing action. Various ingredients are used in the masks, depending upon the skin type and to some extent on the availability of materials. Clays such as fuller’s earth, Kaolin, etc help remove dirt, sebum, and dead skin so that the skin looks clean, soft, and youthful. Another important ingredient is the peeling agent such as oatmeal and bran. Natural masks have natural ingredients such as yogurt, fruits, and vegetable extracts, brewer's yeast and juices, and also essential oils.
3…Exfoliating Facemasks:
Masks with a light exfoliating action can keep your skin in tip-top condition. Even normal skins sometimes suffer from the build-up of dead skin cells, which can create a dull look and lead to future problems such as blackheads. Masks that cleanse and exfoliate are the perfect solution. They smooth on like a clay mask and are left to dry. When you rinse them away, their tiny abrasive particles slough away the skin’s surface debris.
4… Clay masks…1
Clay masks contain natural clay substances that deep cleanse by drawing impurities to the skin’s surface as it dries and tightens. Clay masks are ideal for people with normal to oily skin who would like to absorb excess oil without stripping their skin. Product recommendation: Nu Skin’s Clay Pack – This mask helps unclog pores and free impurities with clay, Aloe Vera, and infused cleansing agents.
Clay And Mud Masks….2
Ideal for oily skins, they absorb excess grease and impurities. They’re an ideal way to & “shrink&” pores, reduce shine, and clear troublesome blemishes. They dry on your skin over a period of 5-15 minutes, and then you simply wash them away with warm water, rinsing dead skin cells, dirt and grime away at the same time. They’re a fantastic pick-me-up for skin.
5…Peel-off masks
Peel-off masks come in gel, plastic, or paraffin wax subtypes, but they’re not as absorbent as clay masks. Peel-off masks tighten the skin temporarily and some stimulate the blood supply. They are good for mature and dry skin. Product recommendation: Jafra Cooling Hydration Mask – Firm skin with this excellent mask formulated with botanical extracts. Ideal for all skin types, the gel is smoothed on, left to dry, and peeled off. The light formulation refreshes oily areas, clears clogged pores, and nourishes drier skins.
6…Gel Masks:
These are suitable for sensitive skins, as well as oily complexions, as they have a wonderfully soothing and cooling effect. Simply apply the gel, lie back, and then wipe off the excess after 5-10 minutes. Ideal after too much sun, or if your skin feels irritated.
7…Thermal masks
Thermal masks are applied to the face and gradually heat up. The warm surface tissues and encourage the skin to breathe. Product recommendation: Boots No7 Purifying Sauna Mask – This mask heats upon contact with water to open pores and leave your skin feeling refreshed.
